Churchill Downs announced a $9 million renovation project, including a high-end space dubbed The Mansion at Churchill Downs today.

The press conference was held in the Joe Hirsch Media Center on the sixth floor, which will be transformed into what track officials call "a spectacular new venue... to provide a lavish ambience, panoramic views and unprecedented levels of personalized service, elegance and excitement."

With the creation of the new venue, journalists will be moving into a new media center near Gate I with trackside seating on the third floor of the clubhouse. Additionally, a new Gold Room is being created for VIP members of the Twin Spires' Club on the second floor in a space formerly housing the Champions Lounge.

Kevin Flanery, the track's President, explained that the track has many different experiences available, from the Infield to the Suites, and the Mansion adds "another layer" for the 320 invitation-only guests, who will have access to a private wine cellar and personal concierge service.

"Whatever party you want," he said, "we can throw."

Flanery indicated that approximately sixty Derby Week jobs will be created with the opening of the Mansion.

Also included in the renovation will be the razing of the Paddock Pavilion to create 30,000 square feet of additional open space at the Paddock.
