The Louisville Bats continued their monumental struggle at the plate Wednesday night. The Bats combined for one run on just six hits in as they were swept in a double header against the Syracuse Chiefs.

Game one saw the Chiefs get a walk off win. With the game tied at a run apiece in the bottom of the seventh (double headers in the minors are two seven inning games), Jim Negrych belted a double that scored Xavier Paul sending the Chiefs to the victory.

The Bats wasted another quality start, this time from Pedro Villarreal. Villarreal went six innings giving up one run on four this, striking out one. Nick Christiani, who pitched the seventh and only managed one out, was charged with the loss.

Game two saw the Bats waste an even better pitching performance. Wirfin Obispo and Travis Webb had combined to pitch the first 6-2/3 innings without giving up a hit. Problem was, the Bats had not scored either.

On an 0-2 count, with two outs in the seventh, Negrych delivered for the Chiefs again, doubling to center. Two batters later, former Bat James Skelton singled home Negrych putting the Chiefs ahead 1-0.

The Bats went in order in the bottom of the seventh (the Bats were the home team in game two) to complete the sweep. The Bats went in order except for a single in the fourth by Neftali Soto.

Since beating Durham 7-0 on Sunday, the Bats have lost four straight and have combined to score three runs in 32 innings of baseball. Their team batting average now sits at .227—eleven points worse than the next best team.

The Bats and Chiefs hook up again Thursday for game four of the five game series. Sean Gallagher (4-3, 5.17 ERA) will be on the hill for the Bats opposed by the Chiefs’ Tanner Roark (3-7, 5.33 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
