It was another rough outing for Andrew Brackman Tuesday night as he gave up five runs in 5.2 innings of work in the Louisville Bats’ 5-3 loss to the Indianapolis Indians. It was Brackman’s third straight loss in as many starts after winning his first start of the season.
After Louisville had scored in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 3-1, Brackman gave up a two-run homer to Nick Evans, a hit that ended up winning the game for the Indians, making the score 5-1.
Louisville battled back, though. Felix Perez singled home Chris Valaika in the seventh to cut the lead to 5-2 and Danny Dorn led off the eighth to make it 5-3.
After Nick Christiani worked a scoreless eighth inning, the Bats were given their chance after Kristopher Negron walked to lead off the ninth. But, Perez and Denis Phipps struck out and Neftali Soto popped out to end the game. The Bats left a total of nine men on base.
Indianapolis jumped ahead in the third inning when Matt Hague singled home two runs with the bases loaded and Nick Evans followed up with a run scoring sacrifice fly.
It’s a very quick turnaround for the two teams Wednesday as they meet in an Education Day special at 11:05 in the morning. Brett Tomko (0-2, 3.68 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Bats. Indianapolis has not announced a starter as of yet. It is the fifth game of the five-game series for both teams and the second of a twelve game road trip for Louisville that stats and ends in Indianapolis.
