Folk rocker Ari Hest will play at Louisville's new music venue, Uncle Slayton's on Monday, April 11, along with guest, Sarah Siskind. Siskind's album Say It Louder was named the Americana Album of the Year at the Nashville Music Awards in 2009.
Hest hails from the Bronx and his recently-released album, Sunset Over Hope Street, is his first, full-length studio record in four years. After leaving Columbia Records, Hest showed his creative and entrepreneurial side, by taking on the 52 project in 2008, in which he recorded and released a new song every Monday to a subscription list of his fans. He later released 12 of the fan-picked songs on his own, Twelve Mondays. These days, he is signed with Downtown/Mercer Street Records, and on the new album Hest relies more heavily on piano than he has in previous work. His song, "Now," is currently featured in the Matthew McConaughey movie, The Lincoln Lawyer.
Uncle Slayton's is located at 1017 E. Broadway (formerly Skull Alley) near Barrett. Tickets for this 7:30 p.m. show (doors at 7:00; 18 and over with ID) are $10 in advance via TicketFly or $12 at the door.
