Next Saturday the University of Louisville football team will play in yet another bowl game, this time the Russell Athletic Bowl, a game where the Cards will square off against the Miami Hurricanes.
This will be the second year in a row that Louisville will go bowling against a Florida school; as last year they upset Florida in the Sugar Bowl. In addition, Louisville’s star QB Teddy Bridgewater hails from Miami himself, and he’s not the only one on the team’s roster to have connections with South Beach. Head coach Charlie Strong has brought talent from Florida as he was already tapped into that state’s talent pool, working for years as an assistant coach for the Gators.
The game is set for a kick off at 6:45, and should prove to be an interesting contest as the Cards and the ‘Canes have a similar style of play. In addition, Miami will be a team that Louisville will be seeing more of in common seasons as they join the ACC next season. This Bowl Game will actually be in Florida, specifically Orlando, however commentators have always noted Cards fans' willingness to travel, so it’s difficult to say if Miami will have a stronger showing purely due to in-state reasons.
This will be Louisville's first trip to the Russell Athletic Bowl since its inception in 1990.
