Judy Schad originally began hosting a open house at her goat dairy farm, Capriole Farms, as a way to say thank you to her farmers' markets partners that help sustain her business.

The event has since grown into a community picnic that allows fans of Schad's goat cheeses to see the farm and its more than 500 goats.

"People are really interested in knowing how the goats are handled," Schad said.

More than 100 people attended this year's Capriole Farms open house on Schad's property in Greenville, Ind. on Sunday. A barbecue lunch was provided by Chef Dean Corbett of Corbett's: An American Place and Equus and Jack's Lounge.

Guests also got a chance to tour the farm's barns and milking facilities, meet and feed the goats and sample some of the award-winning goat cheese.

The event also included beer tastings from Goose Island Brewery in Chicago. The samples included a Bourbon County stout, a crowd favorite.
