De La Torre’s has been replaced by a new concept, a wine bar. Louvino will be serving “small plates and big wine”. They offer small plates so every customer has the chance to sample the menu. According to the website, a couple is anticipated to order 4 or 5 different plates in one sitting. Their big wine menu is constantly changing in order to bring a variety of new wines, but they also will keep a number of wines in stock so that you don’t miss out on your favorites.

Owners, Chad and Lauren Coulter, are not new to the business. They own two Uptown Art locations, on Bardstown Road and in New Albany. With being in this business, they recognize the love and lack of wine in Louisville. We live in a city where bourbon is the dominant choice (duh, welcome to Derby City) and now craft beer is starting to take off. The Coulters run a business that relies on neither, but your creative side and inner wino. Now, they have decided to bring just the wine to Louisville! Opening a business is not easy, though. Luckily, these entrepreneurs have business experience that wouldn’t let mechanical issues hinder their determination to be ready and open. Along with experienced owners, they have added an experienced chef to their team. Chef Tavis Rockwell has worked in a variety of local places, including Jack Fry’s, Captain’s Quarters, and Equus & Jack’s Lounge and he was a featured chef in “Food and Wine” magazine. With a team of this much experience and determination, Louvino is set up for success.

I cannot wait to visit Louvino as soon as possible, which will likely be on a Sunday when they offer two of my favorite things: brunch and wine!  Louvino is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 4 pm-10pm and Thursday through Saturday from 3pm-midnight. On Sundays, it will be open from 10 am-8pm and will be serving brunch from 10am-2pm. While you cannot make reservations, they will accept call ahead seating. Make sure you stop in and try all that Louvino has to offer!
