The serving line at The Brewrey's Pig Roast

On Thursday night, The Brewery’s patio was packed to the brim - there wasn’t an empty table to be found. The reason for this huge crowd? The first pig roast hosted by Louisville Eats Good, the owners of The Brewery.

To say that the roast was a success would be an understatement - the event began at 6 p.m., and by shortly after 7 p.m. almost the entire pig was gone. There was a perpetual waits as people went back for seconds and thirds. The line never once dropped off.

As a vegetarian, I can’t speak to the taste of the pig, but the rest of the menu was amazing - the meal was set up like a taco bar, with lots of fixings to choose from. You chose a shell, got some meat (or not) and then loaded up your plate. I definitely didn’t go hungry and there were some excellent drink specials as well - a $5 red sangria that I tried was one of the best I’ve had.

The idea for the pig roast came about on Derby day when Chef Fernando Martinez was visiting The Brewery. As Louisville Eats Good’s Brian Flowers told me, “he basically said he wanted to do a pig roast, so here we are.” Lucky for everyone, they plan to do at least a couple more.

Keep an eye out on Louisville.com when the next one rolls around to be sure you get a chance to go. With a team like the one at The Brewery and Chef Martinez, you can’t miss out on the excellent food.
