As I posted in my After Party preview article, according to a press release from The Breeders' Cup, people who attended the official after party of the Breeders' Cup at Prime Lounge would have the "opportunity to mingle with jockeys, sports and entertainment personalities and other out of town guests." Unfortunately on Friday night, the clock was approaching midnight and I had seen none of that.
At midnight, Prime Lounge appeared to be at less than half capacity. A few dozen men in button-ups and jeans flocked around a scantily-dressed bar tender as she delivered beers and me an $8 wellWoodford.
DJ Prime Vice was scheduled to perform, but by the earliest of Saturday morning, he either hadn't or was booming tunes to the barest of dance floors.
The doormen were kind and waiting patiently, expecting the storm and enduring the calm.
As I sat chatting with the bouncers, waiting for a glimpse of a small horseback rider (even a shot of Terry Meiners would have sufficed), I was approached by a photographer from the New Albany Tribune.
The man flashed his media credentials and started taking photos of my photographer and I. While he was reduced to taking photographs of other working journalists, he was lucky. He didn't have to write an article about the event.
Finally, my coverage of the 2010 Breeders' Cup After Party ended with a case of attempted theft that resulted in the punching-out of my car window. I hoped that the rest of the night and Saturday's party would go better for the folks at Breeders' Cup and Prime Lounge, but I sure as hell wasn't going to find out.
