If you are a mother-to-be or new mother, there is possibly no bigger question on your mind than that of breastfeeding. There is also probably no greater pressure by others on the question of “will you?” or “won’t you?” Then, there is so very often the question of, “why?” once you do decide.
Breastfeeding, for so many reasons, often ends up being controversial.
In September, Mama’s Hip and Mama to Mama will present a local screening of the new documentary about breastfeeding titled, Breastmilk, that addresses these issues.
A movie by first-time director/producer Dana Ben-Ari, Breastmilk explores what breast milk actually means. New mothers are encouraged to breastfeed, they are told that “breast is best” but what does that actually mean? Also, why are so few mothers able to successfully breastfeed for the minimum recommendation of six months? Why is there so much guilt and pain surrounding am action that so many assume would be so easy but ends up often being so much work?
Come out Friday, September 13, at 7:00 p.m. at the Trilliquin Center to view the documentary and possibly gain some insights on breastfeeding.
