Have you hugged your Library recently?  April is a good month for the written word (April is a good month for a great many things.  For example: I was born).  With sonnets practically sprouting like tulips as National Poetry Month kicks into high gear, what better institution to lavish further praise than that most sacred temple of books – The Library?  Those glorious halls give so much in the way of pleasure, purpose and erudition – and all without a penny stolen from your pocket.  Floyd Central High School joins in the spirit and presents local writer turned national bestseller, Bobbie Ann Mason, at their Media Center this Monday, April 9th.

A native Kentuckian raised amidst a Mayfield dairy farm, Bobbie Ann Mason is now the name behind nationally acclaimed novels and several recognized bestsellers.  Titles in her literary gamut include the short story collection, Shiloh and Other Stories, her most recent release, The Girl in the Blue Beret, as well as her first and widely well-known novel, In CountryIn Country, a volume frequently taught in classrooms, was also adapted for the silver screen and ran its course in film starring Bruce Willis and Emily Lloyd.

Students of Floyd Central – as well as the interested masses – will be given the opportunity to meet Mason in person this upcoming Monday, April 9th.  Starting at 11am, Mason will be on hand at the Media Center to converse with fans, rub elbows and sign autographs; copies Mason’s full literary repertoire will also be available for purchase.  Both school groups and outside fans will also have the opportunity to hear the story behind the dust jacket from Mason as she speaks about her writing career – from minimal means to mainstream.  Mason’s visit will end at 1:30pm.

Bookworms everywhere rejoice!  Hold your bookmarks aloft (but don’t lose your spot) and spread the Library cheer near and far!

Floyd Central High School is located at 6575 Old Vincennes Road in Floyds Knobs, Indiana

Non-students interested in attending should contact Floyd Central High School at (812) 542-3009 for further information; all visitors must check in at the front school doors and obtain a Visitor’s Pass before admission.

Bobbie Ann Mason’s visit is sponsored by the VFW Floyd County Post 3281 along with the assistance of Power2Give and the Arts Council of Southern Indiana.

    About Erin Day

I'm a Louisville native who transplanted home from Las Vegas recently. Don't ask. In my spare time I read a lot of books and drink gin. My soulmate is my 1994 turquoise Ford Ranger - they never made a finer truck. I still totally believe in the Loch Ness Monster. I just want to write for you.
