If you are like me and do not have much family close by, the holidays can tend to be a bit quiet. Instead of going to the trouble and expense of cooking an elaborate Thanksgiving meal for just two people and ending up with copious amounts of leftovers, my father and I decided to go to Austin's Restaurant on Brownsboro Road for their annual Thanksgiving buffet.

The atmosphere in the restaurant was warm and cozy, perfect for a chilly rainy day. Austin's served up unlimited portions of all the food coma-inducing classics; turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, sweet potatoes, and of course, pecan pie. The quality of the food was average, and I must admit that I did miss having grandma's special recipes and the homemade touch. However, for $16.95 each, we were able to avoid just ordering a pizza and hang on to a piece of the holiday tradition this year. Now it's time for a nap and some football. Happy Thanksgiving!
