    Bit to Do

    Print this page

So-- I'm obsessed with Food Network (and more recently The Cooking Channel), and I've developed a habit during my most recent viewings. I analyze the contents of the cooking stars' fridges. Typically, my train of thought is similar to this:

"Everyday Italian" with Giada DeLaurentis: "Oh kale, how trendy! And look at all that cheese…"

"Guy’s Big Bite" with Guy Fieri: "Beer, beer, beer, brisket, beer, beer..."

"Paula’s Home Cooking" with Paula Deen (when it used to be on): "Hmmm I wonder how much of her fridge-space is allotted to butter."

"Mexican Made Easy" with Marcela Valladolid  ... "Mmm crema, cotija cheese, poblanos, corn tortillas (as I roll my r's on torrrrrtillas)—time to plan a trip to Taco Punk."

You get the picture. It reminds me of going over to a friend’s house and realizing that you can learn a lot about them by what they have, or don't have, in their refrigerator.

It's basically a window to their soul.

So why not sneak a peek into the fridges of some local favorites and see what we can find out.

    Wiltshire Pantry

Known for upscale catering and a delicious bakery, Wiltshire Pantry maintains a delicate, yet comforting aesthetic in both its decor and delectable offerings. I took a look at the fridge in their catering commissary on East Breckinridge right before several events were to be catered this evening. The result was visually striking.

    Taco Punk

This trendy, NuLu Mexican favorite held one of the most organized refrigerators I have ever seen in my life. I flipped on my camera to take photos and glanced at a practice photo I had taken at home of my own fridge, and vowed to take my Christmas break to label the contents.

Filled with veggies, veggies, more veggies and lots of taco-fixings-- all definitely as fresh as they promise.

    Eiderdown

This Germantown restaurant is revamping the image of traditional, heavy German food, by implementing Kentucky-fresh produce and French techniques, while still maintaining a rustic flair. The result? A walk-in filled to the brim with farm-sourced meat, produce and dairy. Not to mention some tempting looking tartlets.

So, next time you dine at any of these Louisville favorites, you can be confident that there is some extra special fridge-to-table magic happening!
