Kashmir Indian Restaurant, on 1285 Bardstown Road, never fails to impress me. The first time I visited years ago it was for lamb korma and chicken saag takeout; for the longest time, my fiance and I would hit up Kashmir for takeout on Sundays and eat it together between morning service and evening Bible study. The spicy meat, the cool cream sauce, the soft bready naan, the refreshing buttermilk lassi; the giant menu and great service never fails to make a good impression. What could be better than getting a ton of delicious food for a super cheap price tag? In true American fashion, there is a way to stuff yourself at Kashmir on the weekends for even less than their usual (quite reasonable) entree prices.
For $7.95, on Saturday and Sunday during lunch hours, Kashmir offers a lunch buffet. $7.95 for an all-you-can-eat buffet is a really good deal to begin with, but considering the dearth of delicious Indian food available at this buffet it's a genuine steal. We lunched on chicken korma (chicken in a creamy sauce with pistachios and raisins) and chicken curry (not too spicy!) and these little bitty rolled up pastries in syrup, like a cross between a donut hole and a pancake. The selections on the buffet change every week, but always feature a curry and a masala dish.
Kashmir has an extensive menu for those who want to branch out from the buffet, but I really enjoyed my all-you-can-eat Indian. There were vegetarian options available (some fried veggies, lentil soup, a nice salad) and none of the food was all too spicy, a common gripe with Indian food. The service was absolutely attentive and friendly, and the convenience of the Bardstown road location left us with full bellies, full wallets, and full gas tanks.
