This Sunday, some of the finest in the Louisville music community will gather at Headliners for a public event to celebrate, perform, and award the best of the year.

In its second year, the Louisville Music Awards (LMAs) focus will again be on celebrating all facets of Louisville's wonderfully diverse music scene- from pioneers to fans and businesses- but especially the artists whose talent, vision, and hard work make it so.

This year’s ceremony brings a few changes from last year’s. Kyle Meredith, WFPK Music Director, will again be performing MC duties but he will be joined on stage by local celebrities to present the awards. A few of those names include celebrated chef/restauranteur Ed Lee and Hometown Hero award and banner recipient Patrick Henry Hughes.

The amount of awards categories has also increased to 15 including a new “People’s Choice” award which will be awarded to the public’s music venue of choice. This vote was already done at louisvillemusicawards.com

As with every year, there will be tunes. Performing at this this year’s ceremony will be 2013 LMA winners JaLin Roze and Billy Goat Strut Revue as well as  Wayne Young & Midwest Creole Ensemble who will be performing a tribute to Steve Ferguson, this year’s Legacy award recipient.

Ferguson (1948-2009) was a groundbreaking Louisville musician and member of NRBQ whose four decade career garnered international critical acclaim.

Additionally, Justin Paul Lewis will be doing a short set starting at 6:30 p.m. before the official ceremony begins in honor of his bandmate Michael Felker who was taken from us in late August.

Nominated for the Song of the Year are White Reaper for “Cool,” Howell Dawdy for “Fire Extinguisher,” Jonathan Glen Wood for “Something New”, and Alex Wright for “I Won’t Play.”

You can find a full list of the Louisville Music Awards nominees at louisvillemusicawards.com

Red carpet photo opportunities will be available beginning at 5:30pm at Headliners Music Hall. Doors will open at 6:00 and the ceremony will begin promptly at 7:00.

WAVE 3 News will provide live coverage of the entire awards show. For Louisville music fans who are not able to make the event in person, a live stream will be available at wave3.com on your computer or mobile device.

Tickets to the 2014 LMAs can be purchased for $10 at the Headliners Music Hall box office, www.headlinerslouiville.com, and www.louisvillemusicawards.com
