For up and coming playwrights, it’s a dream come true.
The Humana Festival may be in the books for another year, but Actors Theatre isn’t done yet with producing new works.
This Tuesday and Wednesday evening, April 17 & 18, high school students from the region will have an opportunity that most writers can only wish for.
The plays that they have written will be performed by a professional company, at one of the top regional theatres in the country.
And you can see them for free.
The New Voices Young Playwrights Festival features eight short plays, fully produced and performed by the Actors Theatre Apprentice/Intern Company of Actors Theatre. These works were selected from a field of over 400 entries by area high school students.
The chosen playwrights include sophomores Kinsey Bright and Teddy Martin, from South Oldham High; seniors Emily Woodruff and Danny Cox, and freshman Travis Ryan of duPont Manual High School; junior Rob Jamner from St. Francis High School; senior Maria Wu of Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School (Lexington); and junior Benjamin Tucker of the Sayre School in Lexington.
Tickets to the event are free, but should be reserved in advance by calling the Actors Theatre box office at 502-584-1205. The performances on April 17 & 18 will be at 7pm.
