One of the things I love most about Louisville is how philanthropic the community is. I am continually blown away by the generosity of the people who live here, and the money raised on Friday evening at the 8th Annual Denim & Diamonds Gala in support of the Parkinson Support Center, was a great illustration of that fact. Another thing I love about Louisville is how much people love to have a good time and rise to the occasion of dressing up for a themed event!
Upon my arrival to the celebration, I was greeted by cowboy boots and hats galore. I loved seeing the creative ways that people put together their looks to meet the 'western chic' dress code. Even more impressive than the diamond accents attendees wore, were the way people sported big smiles and high spirits as they gathered to support the members of our community who are affected by Parkinson's disease.
The evening started off with a cocktail hour when people could enjoy fine bourbons and other libations. Attendees were then offered a delicious meal while they learned more about the Parkinson Support Center and had the opportunity to participate in a live auction that was a big success! Allie Hanson, Community Engagement Coordinator of the Parkinson Support Center, said “Denim and Diamonds is our largest annual fundraiser contributing to 40% of our annual budget. This fundraiser is not only a chance to raise awareness for Parkinson’s disease, but it is an opportunity for the community to show support and raise money in a fun way. The funding from this event allows us to keep our programs and services free of charge for those living with Parkinson’s and their families.”
It was exciting to see how people contributed in many ways to make this event a big success for this worthy cause. The celebrating and the dancing continued on into the night, it was a wonderful time had by all.
