    Bit to Do

    Print this page

Earlier today I wrote about the Louisville Free Public Library's initiative to encourage parents to read 1,000 books to their child before kindergarten. Here are five Louisville related books to read:

    1. Gaston Goes to the Kentucky Derby

This book is seriously about an alligator that goes to the Kentucky Derby. If you don't think that's rad, you are wrong.

    2. B is for Bluegrass, a Kentucky Alphabet

B should be for BOURBON, but yeah, okay, it's a kid's book.

    3. I Shook Up the World: The Incredible Life of Muhammad Ali

A tribute written by Ali's oldest daughter, this book has gorgeous pictures and isn't too heavy for younger readers.

    3. Happy Birthday to You: The Mystery Behind the Most Famous Song in the World

Did you know that Happy Birthday was written by two Kentucky Sisters? It totally was. Happy Birthday to us.

    5. Little Freddy at the Kentucky Derby

For more advanced readers (although you'd be surprised what kids can understand if you read out loud), this tells the story of a horse that goes to the Derby.
