Earlier today I wrote about the Louisville Free Public Library's initiative to encourage parents to read 1,000 books to their child before kindergarten [4]. Here are five Louisville related books to read:
1. Gaston Goes to the Kentucky Derby [5]
This book is seriously about an alligator that goes to the Kentucky Derby. If you don't think that's rad, you are wrong.
2. B is for Bluegrass, a Kentucky Alphabet [6]
B should be for BOURBON, but yeah, okay, it's a kid's book.
3. I Shook Up the World: The Incredible Life of Muhammad Ali [7]
A tribute written by Ali's oldest daughter, this book has gorgeous pictures and isn't too heavy for younger readers.
3. Happy Birthday to You: The Mystery Behind the Most Famous Song in the World [8]
Did you know that Happy Birthday was written by two Kentucky Sisters? It totally was. Happy Birthday to us.
5. Little Freddy at the Kentucky Derby [9]
For more advanced readers (although you'd be surprised what kids can understand if you read out loud), this tells the story of a horse that goes to the Derby.
