    Bit to Do

3rd Turn Brewing has been open in Jeffersontown for a little over a month, selling craft beer in an old haunted Methodist church. They are having a lot of success spreading Louisville's craft beer scene to an area outside the Watterson Expressway/I-264 corridor.

3rd Turn Brewing had a soft opening in mid-September during Gaslight Festival Weekend, and they were met with an outpouring of support from Jeffersontown and outlying areas. They enjoyed a very busy weekend, serving up guest taps in their brewery and tap house. The guys at 3rd Turn Brewing are hoping to have their official grand opening, serving up their own custom craft brews later in November. They have all the necessary licenses and all their brewing equipment is set up; they are currently waiting on a control panel for the brewing equipment before they can start.

For now, folks are certainly enjoying the guest taps! The brewery announces their beers for the week and specials on their  Facebook page. They've started offering flight trays, big can sales with free koozies, growler fills starting at $5, and they are opening up their space for events like birthday parties, meetings, happy hours and club events. One fan on Facebook made a great point: that the renovated church turned local brewery would be a perfect venue for a small rustic wedding reception. I couldn't agree more. The brewery does not serve food, but they encourage people to bring their own food or buy from a local Jeffersontown restaurant and bring it on over to enjoy with one of their many locally crafted beers. You can also easily have takeout delivered from nearby local eateries. They also serve craft bourbon and craft wine selections.

Here are some of the guest craft beers they have had on tap since they've been open:

    • Goodwood Oktoberfest
    • Country Boy Halfway Home
    • Country Boy Alpha Experiment - Topaz

Read more about the transition of this brewery from the old 1860s Methodist church and a moose lodge to the "coolest indoor beer garden in the city." Also meet the guys who are behind the scenes and running 3rd Turn Brewing: Ben Shinkle, Dale Shinkle, Brian Minrath and Greg Hayden.

3rd Turn Brewing is open Thursdays and Fridays, 4 p.m.-12 a.m., Saturdays 12 p.m.-12 a.m. and Sundays 1 p.m.-8 p.m. Head there this Halloween weekend for a fabulous place to sit down, chill with friends and have one of the guys tell you a story about how the place is supposedly haunted!
