Hidden History of Kentucky in the Civil War

Kentuckians fought Kentuckians in some of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. Kentucky historian Berry Craig gives a unique perspective on this time period by sharing little-known tales in Hidden History of Kentucky in the Civil War. From the Graves County gun grab to pirates in Paducah to dueling gunboats on the Mississippi, this one-of-a-kind collection will intrigue Civil War enthusiasts and casual readers alike. Craig is a professor of history at the West Kentucky Community and Technical College in Paducah and the author of True Tales of Old-Time Kentucky Politics: Bombast, Bourbon and Burgoo. He was a feature writer and columnist for the Paducah Sun-Democrat and Paducah Sun for many years. There is no cost for this event, though reservations are suggested. You may reserve your seat by visiting www.filsonhistorical.org or by calling The Filson at (502) 635-5083.

Ed Black's Keepin' The 'Ville Funny Showcase

Whew!! This was a tough one to put together, but I am proud to announce the final line-up for my next showcase at The Bard's Town, on Saturday night, January 29th!

I'm gonna do my part in keepin' the 'Ville funny, by presenting a few of the funniest guys I know in today's local comic scene: Special guest, Craig Williams is one of the funniest comedic writers (and minds) with whom I have had the pleasure of sharing a stage for... so many years now. Featured comedian, and Crack'd.com contributor, Greg Welsh makes me laugh in ways that leaves me feeling dirty all over, and Headlining the show, is the most recent addition to the line-up of improvisational comedy troupe, "Damaged Goods", but still in his own right, "The Mad Bastard", J.P. Lebangood! Best part yet, I'm hosting!!

To see talents of this caliber would normally cost you well over $10 a ticket and a two-drink minimum anywhere else, but I'm bringing it to you for ZERO DOLLARS!! Just local entertainment for the people. The Bard's Town is not only becoming the newest premiere venue for local talent, but is also a full service bar and restaurant with a wide variety of food items and beverages available during the show -- again, no minimums!  For more information (or to get reservations) go to www.thebardstown.com.

Show begins at 9:30pm, with a brief ice-breaking appearance by Drew Bailey, fellow member of "Damaged Goods", and also voted by LEO Readers as the 2nd Funniest Comedian in Louisville.

Death row exoneree shares his story

Wrongfully convicted death row inmate Ron Keine will share his story at two public events in Louisville in January. Ron spent two years on New Mexico’s death row following a bizarre campaign by prosecutors to coerce testimony from a motel maid in connection with the murder of a New Mexico student.

Ron’s first appearance is 5 p.m. Sun., Jan. 30, at the Community Center of Church of Epiphany (914 Old Harrods Creek Road).

Ron is part of a group of exonerees called Witness to Innocence. Its goal is to challenge the criminal justice system and change minds of people who think the ultimate punishment is meted out fairly. For additional information, contact KCADP Coordinator Kaye Gallagher at 502-636-1330.
