Kicking off a potential big weekend for WinStar Farm, Doubles Partner with Garrett Gomez aboard won the $200,550 Grade II American Turf at historic Churchill Downs.
"I had a perfect trip," said Gomez, who rides morning line favorite Lookin At Lucky in tomorrow's Kentucky Derby.
He added, "You couldn't have written a better script on how to ride both fences around the turns and be able to get out."
Trainer Todd Pletcher was pleased with his colt's performance.
"He's stepping up at the right time and is an improving colt," he said. "At the head of the stretch, he ooked like he produced a big kick at the right time. He's a rapidly improving colt and he has some exciting and big turf races to come on the schedule this summer."
Doubles Partner paid $11.20, $5.80, and $4.40. Second place finisher Asphalt returned $8.80 and $5.80, and Guys Reward paid $7.60 to show.
WinStar has Super Saver and American Lion in the Derby.
