You're going to drink enough bourbon this week to turn your skin brown. I get that. At some point, though, you may need to change up your libation of choice. For guidance, John Johnson, who owns the Wine Rack (2632 Frankfort Ave.), turns in May's wine-of-the month pick a little early, giving you enough time to plan for Derby. His selection? Italian winery and vineyard Umani Ronchi's Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico, which goes for $11.99. It's a mouthful of a name, no doubt. Johnson's interpretation: This is a refreshing alternative to pinot grigio and sauvignon blanc. (Johnson has 2008 bottles; the one pictured is from '07.)

"It shows beautiful floral and citrus notes on the nose, which carry nicely to the palate," he says of the wine made from Verdicchio grapes. "Lemon lime, a touch of mineral and fresh pineapple flavors are coupled with bright acidity, which keeps the finish hanging on."

It's most important quality? It'll be a much-needed break between all of the mint juleps you'll be ingesting.
