Firstly, a big fat Happy Birthday to Wild and Woolly Video! They are turning 16, and they are having a party. Wild and Woolly is a landmark in our city's small business community, providing a unique and engaging environment in which to find basically whatever movies you want. You can find the latest blockbusters anywhere, but if you want to rent psychedelic cannibal fantasies or nunsploitation films or even movies made by the manager of the movie theater just down the street, Wild and Woolly is your place. It's why they've been able to keep open for so long, surviving the onslaught of online video sales and streaming services, outliving the rental giant Blockbuster, among others. May they live another sixteen years, and beyond.
But about the party: tonight, Monday, the Clifton Center hosts Found Footage Festival Live: “A celebration of odd and hilarious found videos.” The good folks at the Found Footage Festival began collecting videos in 1991, scouring flea markets and yard sales for the weird, the unusual, the hilarious – old commercials, training videos, how-to instructionals, and all things strange, wild, and woolly. They collected over a thousand hours of these gems and worked it all down into a nice, concise feature-length sampling, and then took it on tour.
The show starts at 7:30 at the Clifton Center, located at 2117 Payne Street. Admission is $10 and beer and wine will be available for purchase. Complete information can be found at the Facebook event page, the Wild and Woolly website, or the Found Footage Festival website.
