Roger Daltrey, the frontman for The Who, is bringing his Use It or Lose It tour to the Horseshoe Southern Indiana's Showroom Saturday night.
The tour is Daltrey's first solo one since 1985. Expect to hear material from his solo catalog, cover songs and, of course, works from the world's greatest rock and roll band, The Who (any Stones who'd like to challenge me on that superlative can line up on Bardstown Road for a butt whooping tonight).
Tickets range from $45 to $75, not including Ticketmaster's exorbitant surcharges, and you must be 21 or older to attend. Seats, including some on the floor, are still available. The concert starts at 9 p.m. (a change from its originally scheduled time of 7:30 p.m.).
Daltrey is touring to keep his voice in shape while his band mate, Pete Townshend, works on "Floss," a new musical for The Who.
While the setlists are changing nightly, concerts have included staples of recent Who tours, such as "Who Are You," "Behind Blue Eyes" and "Baba O"Riley," as well as rarities like
- "I Can See for Miles," which inspired Paul McCartney to write "Helter Skelter" for The Beatles
- "Pictures of Lilly," Townshend's ode to adolescent self-indulgence last performed by The Who 20 years ago
- "Blue, Red and Grey," which Daltrey has been performing solo on the ukulele
Johnny Cash and Mose Allison are among the musicians Daltrey has covered on the tour.
Supporting Daltrey on stage are guitarist and backup singer Simon Townshend (yes, younger brother of), guitarist and musical director Frank Simes, keyboardist Loren Gold, bassist Jon Button and drummer Scott Devours.
And for a local connection to the show, Louisville's Mark Ian Wilkerson wrote the authoritative biography on Daltrey's band mate: "Who Are You: The Life Of Pete Townshend."
