The Bacon Ball is my favorite culinary event of the year. Put on by the Louisville Visual Arts Association to benefit the Children's Fine Art Program and the Open Doors program, the Bacon Ball is a wonderful night where restaurants get together and provide (mostly) bite size samples of a bacon dish to the lucky attendees. The people then vote in a Bacon King (and this year, there will also be a Critic's Choice Award!). Local bands will be performing, and everyone will be fat and jolly with bacon grease and joie de vivre

The restaurants participating this year include The Cellar Door, Hammerheads (the reigning Bacon King!), Proof on Main,The Silver Dollar, The New Albanian, and Eiderdown. The Bacon Ball is sponsored by the Bluegrass Brewing Company, Four Roses, and Cumberland Brews among others, so expect plenty of delicious libation as well. Some of last year's samplings included bacon burgers, bacon butter pecan ice cream, and pork belly French toast!

The Bacon Ball is taking place this coming Saturday evening, May 18, beginning at 7:00 pm and winding on until 11:00pm, at Oxmoor Farm. You can get your tickets here, Tickets are $40.00 for those among us who are not members of the LVAA, or $70 per couple. Trust me, the ticket price is wildly worth it. Last year I was gorged to the gills, pleasantly buzzed, and totally excited to be alive by the end of the evening. I personally cannot wait to attend Bacon Ball 2013!
