It doesn't matter whether you're going to the infield or a boxed seat, decorating your own Derby hat is a time honored tradition here in Louisville.
For the third year running, Westport Village is hosting one heck of a Derby Hat shebang. The day after Thunder, head out to the corner of Westport Road and Herr Lane for a leisurely family afternoon. They'll have celebrities on hand to judge hats (not to mention some darn spiffy prizes for the winners). The Juicy Lucy Glassworks mobile van will be on site for people who want to blow their own tumblers (what better way to drink your bourbon?) If you're neither a fashionista or a blowhard, they still offer a ton of free familiy fun in the form of bouncy castles, magicians, face painters, sidewalk chalking zones, and, of course, plenty of gorgeous hats to oogle.
The hat judging starts at 11 am and the overall festivities run until 3 pm.
