Although I listened to Daphe Miller speak at the IdeaFestival on Thursday, her words are still with me. With emphasis being placed lately on eating healthy and preventative care, her lecture and book titled "The Jungle Effect" ties in perfectly. Daphne Miller is currently a family physician at Wholefamilymd in San Francisco and she happens to have graduated from both Brown University and Harvard Medical School. She wrote "The Jungle Effect", which came out in 2008 (HarperCollins), as a combination of recipes, nutritional facts and a means of documenting her travels to places in the world that are still relatively free of the modern diseases plaguing the rest of the world. Most of us know people who have, or are personally afflicted with diabetes or heart disease. I worked in healthcare for more than 10 years and  am all in favor of doing things that can help reduce the possibility of getting sick, especially with the rising costs of health insurance and care.

I'm sure that I coud go on and on with dry facts and information trying to sum up all that I heard from listening to her, but I won't. I'll just suggest that you read her book, which The Miami Herald summed up like this:"This fascinating, well researched book explores the health benefits of traditional diets from Iceland to Cameroon. The benefits include reduced risk of heart disease, diabetes and depression.”.
