Ladies and gentlemen, it is that time of year yet again: the time when we celebrate a classic story, the tale of a man who just wanted to hang out and go bowling and enjoy his life of relaxation, but is forced into activeness and problem solving despite himself. Yessir, it is time for the 12th annual Lebowski Fest, taking place this weekend, Friday the 19th and Saturday the 20th.
As usual, the event will bring live music, games, food, bowling, White Russians, beer, and, of course, the film screening, to you, the willing consumer of all this fantastic entertainment. I will, unfortunately, be unable to be in attendance this year in order to bring you full and complete coverage of all the festivities, but you can check out my rundown of last year's festival here.
It starts with the official pre-party this Thursday, the 18th, at 7:30 at Wick's, located at 975 Baxter Avenue. The party itself begins on the 19th with part one, the Movie Party, featuring live music from the Kyle Gass Band (he of Tenacious D fame) and a screening of The Big Lebowski. Admission to the Movie Party is $20 in advance, $25 day of. It starts at 8:00 and takes place at 911 Phillips Lane.
Come back the next day for the Garden Party, starting at 4:00, for a day full of games and activities, as well as live music by Leftover Cuties, March Madness Marching Band, Taylor Brashears with Va Va Vixens, and Squeeze-Bot. The Garden Party is $15 in advance, $20 day of.
And finally, stick around for the “Legendary” Bowling Party, taking place across the parking lot at Executive Strike and Spare. Admission is $25 in advance, $30 day of, and includes unlimited bowling and shoe rentals, as well as plentiful White Russians and oat sodas (this means beer) for extra charge.
Or you can buy a bulk ticket for all the festivities, which will run you $50. Tickets can also be purchased at the Nulu WHY Louisville, located at 806 E. Market Street. Online ticketing, as well as complete details, can be found at the official Lebowski Fest website.
