After winning the Keg of Nails on Friday in the victory over Cincinnati at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, the University of Louisville Cardinals dominated Big East conference honors. Teddy Bridgewater was named Offensive Player of the Week and Preston Brown took Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Bridgewater threw for 416 yards in the overtime victory over the Bearcats. His first half wasn’t the greatest of his career, but he came on in the second half, leading the Cards to tie the score and briefly take the lead. Pinpoint passes to DeVante Parker for late touchdowns brought Bridgewater’s stats up considerably.
On the other side of the ball, Brown recorded 13 tackles, four of them solos, and an interception. He’s one of the top tacklers in the Big East, ranking 10th.
This isn’t the first time the Cards top individual conference honors. Earlier this season, Senorise Perry and Adrian Bushell shared honors.
The victory over Cincinnati, Louisville’s toughest opponent to date this year, has been good for the Cards. Sunday, the USA Today Coaches Top 25 Poll had UofL ranked at number 10. The high ranking brings the Big East its only powerhouse number. Cincinnati fell out of the poll last week and the weekend’s Rutgers loss drops the Scarlet Knights to number 25.
