The Winston Hours, a Louisville rock/indie pop band, is one of the 11 bands in the running of WHAS 11's Great Bands Live! contest sponsored by Doo Wop Shop, Bearno's, and Little John's Jewelry.  Voting started at 10 a.m. today and will continue until 11:59 p.m. on May 15.  You can watch The Winston Hours' May 9th performance on Great Bands Live here.

After four months of composing original music Taylor Nicholson enlisted three more musicians to form this band in April 2011. The four band members are: Taylor Nicholson (Vocals,Guitar) Jim Bob Brown (Keys, Vocals) Russ Allen (Bass, Synth) Nick Beach (Drums). The Winston Hours now collectively write their own melody and harmony driven compositions that tell stories about the trials and tribulations of everyday life. Their music appeals to the old and the young and is influenced by The Avett Brothers, The Killers, Bob Dylan and The Beatles.

The Winston Hours were subject to several rules in order to qualify for this contest including:

    • All bands must be legal residents of Kentuckiana.
    • All band members must be 18 years old or older as of March 23, 2012.
    • Band members may not be professional singers with a current recording contract.
    • No one affiliated with WHAS-TV (“Sponsor”) or Belo Corp. is eligible.

The band name has a nice sound to it. Wondering how they came up with the name? Their name comes from a Secret Service reference to FDR and Winston Churchill.

What do you need to do right now? Go 'like' them on Facebook so you can stay up to date on their upcoming shows and go vote for The Winston Hours to win Great Bands Live!
