Edinson Volquez will start for the Louisville Bats on Wednesday morning.
The right-handed pitcher, who is on a rehabilitation assignment from the Cincinnati Reds, will take the mound against Toledo at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday morning at Louisville Slugger Field.
Volquez, who is coming back from Tommy John surgery, was transferred from Lynchburg to Louisville last Friday. In two starts with the Hillcats, the Reds' Class High-A team, he went 1-0 with a 0.00 earned-run average. Volquez allowed only three hits, while striking out seven and walking none in eight innings.
Volquez started nine games for the Reds in 2009, posting a 4-2 record with a 4.35 ERA, before heading to the disabled list at the beginning of last June. On Aug. 3 he had season-ending surgery to repair the torn ulnar collateral ligament and the torn fleor mass in his right elbow.
Volquez, who came over in the Josh Hamilton trade with the Texas Rangers, exploded onto the National League scene with the Reds in 2008. He went 17-6 with a 3.21 ERA and was named to the National League All-Star team.
