Children can be evil. Oh, they can be wonderful and adorable, too, but let’s face it: they can be pretty rough to deal with. From tantrums and screaming during the toddler years to bullying and hazing during adolescence (and, for the immature, well into adulthood), it’s no wonder that our youth are stereotypically treated with distrust and disgust by older members of our race. But really, these kids aren’t evil… they’re just kids who have yet to grow up. Usually.
Village 8 Louisville Exclusives presents a limited run of the highly anticipated film “We Need to Talk About Kevin” – Kevin, who is in prison for massacring students at his high school. The film operates in flashbacks as Kevin’s mother reflects on his life growing up, the difficulties she had raising him, and the events that lead to the school shooting.
To watch the trailer, one gets the impression that this is yet another demonic-child horror film, a la “The Omen” or “Orphan.” (Stop doing this, Hollywood – word on the street is that you are slated to ruin the fantastic “Akira” by remaking it with this hackneyed formula [Hollywood reads my articles, right?].) However, the buzz is that this is something special and original, featuring fantastic direction from Lynne Ramsay (“Ratcatcher,” “Morvern Callar”) and stunning performances by Tilda Swinton and John C. Reilly; movie blogs during Oscars season were in up-in-arms at this film’s complete lack of nominations. Apparently this is one to see.
