I haven't thought about politics in months. In fact, I didn't even think much about politics last year during election season. (Confession: I didn't even vote!) Politics are a sticky, messy business, full of misdirection and misinformation, and we are expected to swallow all of it whole and somehow emerge from the media frenzy accurately informed about all sides. This is silliness, pure and simple, and it's best to either avoid the whole thing, or dive in completely, weeding out all the garbage and somehow figuring out what's really what. This sounds exhausting.
The fact is that every politician or candidate has PR people, men and women meant to make them look good to the public eye. This makes sense, of course. It also brings us to our topic: the film Knife Fight
, directed by Oscar-winning documentarian Bill Guttentag, playing now at Village 8 as the newest installment in the Louisville Exclusives series. Rob Lowe stars as Paul Turner, a political strategist with a wide and interesting array of clients, including an affair-prone governor (Eric McCormick), a senator dabbling in blackmail (David Harbour), and a doctor who wants to run for governor (Carrie-Anne Moss). Throughout it all, he learns a little something about life and honesty. The film also stars Jamie Chung, Richard Schiff, and Julie Bowen.
Knife Fight
