    Bit to Do

Village 8 Louisville Exclusives presents 'Darling Companion' [Movies]
    Print this page

It is said that the dog is man's best friend. They are loyal, loving, and obedient. We demand their affection and they happily lay at our feet, content to do nothing but eat, sleep, play, and give us love.

Thinking about it, it kind of sounds like humanity has a God complex, doesn't it? Perhaps that says something positive about cat people; cats are independent, individualistic. You have to earn their respect, and you do that by respecting them first. This is one of the many reasons I'm not at all religious – aside from not believing in the first place, the idea of a being whose main concern is itself and is narcissistic enough to require the enslaving devotion of all its subjects is kind of repulsive...

But hey, I'm just running a train of thought here. I'm a dog person.

The point is that people take their dogs seriously, and thus is the subject of the film Darling Companion

, written and directed by Lawrence Kasdan (co-writer of

    The Empire Strikes Back

    and

    Return of the Jedi

    , and writer of

    Raiders of the Lost Ark

) and starring Diane Keaton and Kevin Kline. After finding a stray dog on the side of the road, Beth Winter (Keaton) has a friend she can rely on to be there for her – so much so that it starts to affect her relationship with her husband Joseph (Kline). It all comes to a head when Joseph accidentally loses the dog, and Beth undertakes a massive search operation, which includes the existence of a psychic gypsy.

    About Allan Day

There are legitimate theories that the Big Bang originated from the collapse of a black hole in a fourth-dimensional universe. This stuff fascinates me, and I love reading about it. I love reading about science. And about anything, for that matter, provided it's interesting - and everything is potentially interesting, so I'm fascinated by a lot of things. I also read a lot of fiction (Kurt Vonnegut deserves deification) and watch a lot of movies (Charlie Chaplin also deserves deification). I've made a few short films myself. I'm also a writer of everything - I'm close to a Bachelor's in English at IUS. My life consists of reading, writing, bartending, and taking care of my daughter full-time. Life is busy and life is stressful, but that's why there's music and art and other forms of relaxation.
