Every year, as far back as I remember, my family had a tradition: every Thanksgiving night, after the feast, we would watch the classic Tim Allen film The Santa Clause to end Thanksgiving and kick off the Christmas season. I got married when I was twenty, and we held up the tradition, switching, however, from The Santa Clause to Love, Actually. Well, that whole deal didn't work out, and this year I found myself wondering what to do about it. New chapter in my life, new film needed. I didn't want to go with anything obvious, like A Christmas Story or Home Alone (great as those are). Luckily, I have some wise friends who informed me that I should retire with them to their home and watch A Muppet Christmas Carol, which I haven't seen since I was very small. It was a great idea (but I fell asleep, actually). 'Tis the season for Christmas movies, and lucky for you, there's a brand new one playing right now at Village 8 Theaters.
It's called Angels Sing, and it stars Harry Connick Jr. as Michael, a grinch of a man who loved Christmas as a boy until a tragic accident occurred. Since then, he wants nothing to do with the holiday (as evidenced in the trailer by rejecting the special seasonal drinks at the coffee shop in exchange for a boring ol' cup of plain black coffee [my personal beverage of choice, by the way]). But then his family hits a snag in their lives and they are offered the deal of a lifetime: a massive discount on an incredibly luxurious house sold to them by “Nick” (Willie Nelson), who has one condition: uphold the neighborhood standards. Turns out they're all about them some Christmas decoratin', and it's up to Michael to get his head straight.
