Bit to Do

I don't know if it has ever come across in my persona as your friendly local film reporter, but in real life I can be kind of pretentious about some things – food, beer, books, etc. When it comes to movies, I'm pretty open. I like film both good and bad – and bad can be fun to dissect and pick apart. But every so often I'll see something, or a trailer for something, and I just have to sit back and wonder – how the hell

does this crap sell? There are all sorts of recycled Hollywood formulas, but the one that gets me worked up the most are what I think of as exploiting the perceived “modern” adult culture – men and women in their thirties acting like quirky children. )

I surmise it began with people like Judd Apatow, who actually worked it with hilarious success in films such as

The 40-Year-Old Virgin

and

Knocked

Up

.

This is supposed to be relevant and funny, but the last successful attempt was

The Hangover

, and since then it just feels insulting – and worse, it makes one wonder about our culture, since people are actually seeing these things. (And don't even get me started on

Bridesmaids

– I have no idea why people think it's funny, and I have a whole prepared rant about why it is insipid and offensive, and not in a fun way.)

So now that I've done my little rant: Village 8 Louisville Exclusives presents a limited run of the film

Bachelorette

, which tells the story of a woman who is now engaged and all her friends who are now having to deal with the whole ordeal. Quirky shenanigans ensue. I'm sure it's supposed to be funny.

Bachelorette
