In a recent phone interview, Umphrey's McGee bassist, Ryan Stasik talks about the group's last time in Louisville and their upcoming show at Iroqouis Ampitheater with Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears.
"The last time we were in Louisville was for The Forecastle Festival," Stasik said. "We played Wiffel Ball with Devo and Grace Potter."
"We loved the city, it was a great festival and the people were festive and excite,"Stasik said. "And we're excited to be back."
Friday night, Stasik and the rest of Umphrey's McGee will be taking a break from recent duties as backing band for Huey Lewis and The News and possibly showcase some new tunes.
"Everything's pretty rad right now (with Umphrey's)," Stasik said. "We just recorded 7 new songs in the studio and we're hoping to play the new songs in June."
Joining Umphrey's McGee will be Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears, whose blend of blues, rock, funk and r&b is sure to be a solid match for Umphrey's wild, eclectic jams.
Black Joe Lewis has toured heavily over the last several years in support of their debut album, Tell 'em What Your Name Is!. The band is gritty, flawless and equipped with a horn section. Be prepared.
