    April 16, 2005.  Louisville, KY. – In a hot hoops contest featuring some of the nation’s top high school basketball talent, the Gold All-Stars defeated the Black All-Stars 136 - 125 in tonight’s adidas Derby Festival Basketball Classic at Freedom Hall. Duke recruit Greg Paulus scored 11 points and was named Gold team MVP. U of L recruit  Terrence Williams scored 32 points and was named MVP of the Black squad.

    A crowd of 10,176 was on hand to watch the contest, which featured one University of Kentucky recruit and five future University of Louisville players. At halftime, it was announced that the team of Chad Millard and Joey Shaw, recruits for Louisville and Indiana, respectively, won Friday night’s 2-on-2 finals at Bellarmine University’s Knights Hall during the adidas Derby Festival Night of the Future Stars. 


    Said Derby Festival President and CEO Mike Berry: “The enthusiasm and turnout for this year’s adidas  Derby Festival Basketball Classic was very gratifying. Our partnership with adidas has allowed us to showcase 24 of the best high school seniors in the country. We can hold our own with any all-star game in the nation.”


    The Finals for these competitions were held at halftime of tonight’s game:


    3 POINT SHOOTING CONTEST
    Ryan Ayers 26 points Attending: Notre Dame   


    SLAM DUNK CONTEST
    Terrance Williams Perfect score of 80  Attending: Louisville   


    Also at halftime of the game, a permanent banner was unveiled in Freedom Hall honoring the 1975 American Basketball Association champion Kentucky Colonels. On hand for the ceremony were former Colonels players Artis Gilmore and Louie Dampier and assistant coach Lloyd Gardiner.  The entire surviving team members will serve as Honorary Grand Marshals in the Republic Bank Pegasus Parade on Thursday, May 5, 2005.  Bleacher tickets to the parade are $5 and still available at TicketMaster (502-361-3100).


    BellSouth, Delta Air Lines, Powerade and Radio One were the contributing sponsors of the Basketball Classic. All the action was broadcast live on WLRS 105.1.
