Do you find yourself running around the house chanting "USA...USA!" while draped in an American flag lately?  Are you pining for the possibility that your little one could one day be a future Olympian?  Sign your child up for some ice skating lessons at a local ice rink and perhaps your  vicarious dreams of Olympic glory can come true.

Here are two local ice rinks that offer figure skating lessons as well as many other activities for the whole family:

    •  Iceland Sports Arena- Located out in Anchorage, this modernish facility hosts a variety of figure skating and ice hockey lessons for kids.  They also offer lessons for adults (it's never too late to go to the Olympics, right?) as well as Bocci Ball.
    • Alpine Ice Arene- Celebrating its 50th season in Louisville, Alpine offers also offers figure skating and ice hockey lessons for children and adults.  On Sundays at 4 pm, there are free ice skating lessons with the price of admission.  They are located right off the Waterson Expressway at Gardiner Lane.

When I was a kid, I tried ice skating lessons.  I have many good traits but unfortunately balance, athleticism and grace are not among them.  I can barely walk without tripping, so sadly, my figure skating career was over before it began.  Perhaps when Jack learns to walk I can mold him into the Olympic athlete I never became.

The question remains...does anyone know of a joint in this town where I can take some curling lessons?
