    Bit to Do

Train enthusiasts, get your fill at the Great Train Expo

I grew up with girls, being the middle child sandwiched between two sisters. I had an only child, a daughter, up until eighteen months ago. Then a boy entered my life, and I now know just how important trains are to a little boy. I never really understood it until I started flipping through the channels on television and happened to try to fly right by a "Thomas the Train" episode. But my little guy would have none of that. So I gave into the guilt and switched it back to the train cartoon. And now my 18-month-old has learned a new vocabulary word: Thomas. He knows what that one little word means, and so I. It can only mean one thing: trains!

If you have a boy in your life who loves trains, you don't want to miss the Great Train Expo this weekend at the Kentucky International Convention Center. Or you may have girls who love trains. You may love trains yourself. Either way, this event is full of family entertainment from ages 9 months to 99.

The Great Train Expo has chugged into Louisville and made a stop for two days, February 16 and 17, from 10am-4pm each day. The cost is $7 per adult; children under age 12 are admitted free. That admission covers both days of the expo. See miniature world designs surrounded by trains. Check out over 50 vendors showcasing the best model train displays in the country, as well as shop for toys, clothing, and other merchandise. Also on the schedule are a variety of seminars, a riding train and play area for kids, and a LEGO train set up.

The Great Train Expo will be held in Exhibit Hall 2D. The Convention Center is located at 221 S. 4th Street. For more information, visit www.greattrainexpo.com.
