When I was young, every Tuesday my family would gather in front of the TV for what we called “Tool Time Tuesdays,” tuning in to see what kind of hijinks the Taylor family would get up to in that week’s episode of “Home Improvement.” The sitcom has been an American television trademark for over half a century, gaining great popularity as a comedy style with the help of “I Love Lucy.” Today the tradition continues with examples such as “The Office” and “Community” – and thankfully the laugh track is finally going out of style.
A classic favorite is the comedy of errors “Three’s Company,” which ran for eight seasons from 1977 to 1984. The story revolved around three people, two women and a man, who shared an apartment, getting up to all sorts of laugh-inducing shenanigans.
This was before my time, but fans of the show now have an opportunity to meet two of the stars: Joyce DeWitt, who portrayed roommate Janet Wood, and Priscilla Barnes, who joined the show in its later years as new roommate Terri Alden.
DeWitt and Barnes will make an appearance at this year’s Kentucky Flea Market Memorial Day Spectacular on Saturday and Sunday, May 26-27, from noon to 5:00 and on Monday, May 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Too young to have caught “Three’s Company”? Joyce DeWitt is also recognizable from “Airplane II,” and Priscilla Barnes can be caught in such prolific films as Rob Zombie’s “The Devil’s Rejects,” Kevin Smith’s “Mallrats,” and the James Bond film “License to Kill.”
The Flea Market will be held in South Wing C of the Kentucky Exposition Center, which is located at 937 Phillips Lane. Admission is free, but those seeking autographs from the stars can expect to shell out $20 for a signed picture.
