    Witness First Firing at New Kiln


    The first firing at The Meadows Pottery 120 cubic foot wood kiln is scheduled for the first week in December. Glazing begins early on December 3rd, loading will be on December 4th, and the kiln will be fired up on December 5th.  All kiln space has been filled but visitors are welcome.  Please contact Matthew Gaddie at 502.460.0456 if you are interested in being a part of the firing. 


     


    Two Exhibitions Highlighting Works by Ellen Glascow


    An exhibition of oil paintings and monotypes by Frankfort's Ellen Glasgow at The Woodford Reserve Distillery in Versailles will run through December 31st. Also, the Elk Creek Winery in Owenton, KY is featuring a collection of Ellen's latest monotypes of the Kentucky River and South Carolina's Low Country in their Holiday Exhibition which will close December 31st.  For more information contact Rebekka Seigel at 502-484-0005.     Bette Levy Featured in Upcoming Exhibition at Pyro


    Meticulous Attention, an exhibition by PYRO gallery member, Bette Levy and guest artists from the internationally-known Surface Design Association, opens on Friday, January 4, 2007, at PYRO, 624 West Market Street. Coinciding with the First Friday Trolley Hop, the opening reception is from 6 to 9pm, and the show runs through February 9. The theme of Levy’s show is based on the phrase, “Obsession is the meticulous attention to detail” and refers to the keen attentiveness required to create her intense, detailed work, as well as the attentiveness required by the viewer to experience and respond to her work. The exhibition features the intricate abstract embroidery for which Levy is well-known and includes other mixed-media pieces. Most of the embroidered work is inspired by the textures, shapes, and shadows found in tree bark.     Collis Marshall Featured in Current Pyro Exhibition


    EARTH - An Exhibit by PYRO artists & invited guests is on display from through Dec, 29, 2007. Following Pyro Gallery's long standing tradition of presenting a winter group show, the cooperative gallery has chosen earth for the theme this year. Each Pyro member has produced work relating to this rich subject, and in addition each was called to invite an outside artist to show as well. The result is exploration of themes as varied as digital communication, spherical forms, spatial relationships and the place and effect of people as we relate to the world around us.     Two Jewelry Workshops with Jennifer McLamb


    In the Holidazzle Earrings workshop, December 8th from 9am-12pm, students will learn to combine ladder stitch and brick stitch to create these lovely dangling earrings. Pattern can be adapted to make these earrings large or small, short or long. In the PMC Paper Pendant workshop, December 11th from 6-9pm, students will learn the basics of working with PMC paper while creating a stunning pendant. A materials kit containing all the necessary tools and materials will be provided on the day of the class. Classes will fill quickly!     Louisville Photographer Bill Noel Now a Novelist

    Lexington Artist Arturo Alonzo Sandoval Receives Kentucky Star Award


    Arturo Alonzo Sandoval has received a UK Provost grant to participate in the 40th Mid-States Craft Exhibition at the Evansville Museum of Art, History and Science, Evansville, IN. His artwork Pattern Fusion No. 8 was accepted for the competition. The exhibition runs from Dec. 1, 2007 to January 27, 2008.
