For the last fifteen years pitcher Trever Miller has been a mainstay in major league baseball suiting up with teams all over the country.

However, the part of the country Miller calls him hometown is right here in ‘the ‘ville’ and that makes him today’s Sports Legend of the Ville.

The young athlete first came to local prominence with his high school alma matter, Trinity. He was such a standout with the school in fact that in 1991 he was named Kentucky’s Mr. Baseball and Gatorade’s High School player of the year.

Further, the bluegrass native was drafted out of high school by the Detroit Tigers in the first round of the 1991 MLB draft. Recognizing his youth though, the Tigers decided that Miller still needed some fine tuning and placed him in their farm league system.

Working his way up, the ball player’s first major league stop was with the Bristol Tigers, followed by the Single-A Fayetteville Generals, and Double-A Trenton Thunder and Jacksonville Suns.

Ironically this led to Miller suiting up against a rival of his hometown’s triple A ball club Louisville Bats, the Toledo Mud Hens.

Finally in 1996 he got the call for the bigs, suiting up officially as a Detroit Tiger. After that, Miller’s athleticism led him around the league playing for the Astros, Phillies, Dodgers, Blue Jays, Rays, and Cardinals.

Currently, Miller is signed with the Boston Red Sox organization playing with their Triple A-Affiliate, the Pawtucket Red Sox. He is also an avid family man, marathon runner, and has devoted a great deal of his time and himself to charities, specifically the Kiwanis club.

    About Dave Rose

Recently, I completed a Masters degree in Education and have been writing for Louisville.com for over a year now, prior to that I published a humor book for young adults titled Wearing Socks with Sandals, a book about getting through high school, college, and all of the requisite problems that present themselves during that time. Currently, I spend much of my time in classroom settings as well as writing in various areas. Of course, I’m a big sports fan and love music and film, and love finding new stuff around Louisville.
