    Bit to Do

I knew it was out and I had to have one: Mokah, the Imperial Stout from Southern Tier Brewing Company, which is a combination of their Choklat Imperial Chocolate Stout and Jah*va Imperial Coffee Stout.  If you are a chocolate lover, then just go ahead and leave now to get a glass or bottle of the Mokah, because the anticipation that I had when I was on my way to Boombozz Taphouse in the Highlands to have a glass was instantly confirmed when I got my first whiff of the snifter set in front of me.

The chocolate aroma was so inviting that I nearly stuck my nose IN the beer as I was preparing to imbibe.  The first sip was, in a word, perfect.  It was like drinking chocolate syrup with a warming alcohol affect.  To some this might not sound like their idea of a beer, and to be sure it's much more of a sipping beer than one you'll want to grab for after an outdoor activity.  But unless you're a chocolate hater or you just don't like to try new things, you need to give the Mokah a chance.  Brewed with caramel, chocolate, and black malts, Jamaican roasted coffee, and bittersweet Belgian chocolate, this is a beer for the person who enjoys frequenting their local coffee shop for a morning latte.

Mokah is the third release in the Southern Tier Blackwater Series of Imperial Stouts, along with the aforementioned Choklat and Jah*va and the soon-to-come Creme Brulee Imperial Milk Stout.  Clocking in at 11.2% ABV, this is a stout's stout and you will start to wonder if your giddiness is coming from the great chocolate flavor or the alcohol.  Southern Tier has further established itself as one of my favorite brewers with this one and I am genuinely excited to try anything they offer.  I'm not the only one who feels this way, obviously, since Ratebeer.com gives Mokah a score of 99 out of 100 and Beeradvocate.com chimes in with an A-.  If you're suddenly curious about this amazing beer you can take a jaunt down to Boombozz on the corner of Eastern Parkway and give it a try, or you can also pick up a 22oz bottle at the ValuMarket in Mid City Mall for $7.99, which is exactly what I did on my way home.
