I hate to say I told you so, actually it really doesn’t bother me, but last night a sold out crowd witnessed a deliverance of sorts, as promised.
Quiet Corral had the grueling task of warming up the swelling crowd, but they did an excellent job under such circumstances. Props to Garret for the CD, as these guys have a really enthused and positive sound that had the crowd reeling by the end. Certainly worth checking out, but we’ll save that for another episode.
From the moment Gary Clark Jr. took the stage the aura and karma of the crowd was memorably intoxicating. The man of the evening, famous for ‘The Stare’, was smiling ear to ear as even he could feel it in the air more than Phil Collins. Serious side note, kudos to the Louisvillians, and visitors, for their energy.
Now at this point, you could go into what songs he played rarara, but the thing that resonated the most with me, and those around me, was the actual feeling the music gives to a person. Having never had the opportunity to see Mr. Clark live, I polled a few members of the crowd and there was certainly more than one returned devotee. One older gentlemen (please not Judge, the defendant merely stated the gentlemen was older NOT old) divulged it was his 4th show and his only words of advice were ‘just wait…’…thankfully I heeded his instruction. The entire show was incredible and this guy here has officially been converted with Gary Clark Jr. possibly leading us to a musical promise land. ‘Bright Lights, Big City’ didn’t hurt either and that rip likely would’ve made Jimmy Reed himself slap the taste out his own mouth quicker than Dr. Dre did to you in 92. 2nd coming of Hendrix, maybe comparable, but a style and delivery all his own…
