For a night of smooth jazz and soul, British singer Sade takes the stage at KFC Yum! Center, supported by touring partner John Legend, on Friday, September 9 at 7 p.m. Sade is touring behind her first album in a decade, Soldier of Love, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Chart in 2010.
Sade collectively is the band name, but also the name by which its superstar singer is best known. Born in Nigeria, Helen Folasade Adu, moved to England with her mother as a child. Adu burst on the scene in 1984 with her album Diamond Life and the hit singles "Smooth Operator" and "Your Love is King," going on to place all of her next studio albums in the Top 10 and winning four Grammys. A long hiatus followed 2000's Lover's Rock, but when she felt she had new material that she wanted to record, the original band was able to reconvene. Along with Adu on vocals, the principal band members are Stuart Matthewman on guitar and sax, Andrew Hale on keyboards, and bassist Paul S. Denman.
