Back by popular demand, the Louisville BMW Riders will host
the 2009 Lap of Kentucky motorcycle/scooter ride, Thursday through Sunday, June
18-21. The Lap will begin and end at BMW Motorcycles of Louisville, located at 116 W. Breckinridge Street
in downtown Louisville.
Participants will circumnavigate the state on a designated route consisting
mainly of secondary roads. The route is approximately 1400 miles and offers
many scenic views of Kentucky
and neighboring states. Proceeds will benefit the Warrior Transition Unit (WTU)
at Fort Knox.
“This is a great ride to kick-off the beginning of summer”,
said Jeff Cooke, owner of BMW Motorcycles of Louisville. “The Summer Solstice
weekend provides the maximum amount of daylight for lapping the state of Kentucky.”
The
first Lap of Kentucky was held in 2000. All
brands of bikes/scooters are welcome. The start time will be 9 am Thursday,
June 18, with a finish time of 5 pm on Sunday, June 21. The $50 entry fee
provides a souvenir t-shirt, and a prize for finishing at the 5 pm
finish/awards ceremony. Special awards will be presented to the oldest
finishing rider, the youngest finishing rider, the oldest finishing
motorcycle/scooter and the smallest displacement finishing motorcycle/scooter.
Since this is not a race, there will be no award for the quickest finishing
time.
