During Matt & Kim's last appearance in Louisville, they performed under I-64 during Forecastle and in between songs drummer Kim Schifino commented that the outdoor urban setting that made her feel like they were in Brooklyn. On October 16, the dance/synth duo will perform in Louisville once again courtesy of the University of Louisville's Student Activities Board. Coincidentally the performance will also take place outdoors and in an urban setting as the stage will be constructed on Cardinal Boulevard in the middle of campus.

An event like this one (that is free and open to the public) is a unique undertaking and Student Activities Board Concert Committee Chair Katie Olsen has been at helm of event team. Olsen answers a few questions for Louisville.com about an event that is sure to make noise in Old Louisville in just a few weeks.

Louisville.com: What makes Matt & Kim a good band for a college campus?

Katie Olsen: "This show is going to be the kickoff event for Homecoming week at UofL so it’s essential that the band is really high-energy. I saw Matt and Kim a few years ago at Forecastle and they blew me away. They’re just so exciting and fun. Also, we strive to give students the opportunity to experience a variety of musical genres. We decided to go with an indie-pop band which is a genre most students will enjoy because the sound is so fun – you can’t help but dance when you hear them."

LC: The location of the concert is unique. Has there ever been on concert on Cardinal Blvd before and what will the setup look like? What streets will be closed?

Olsen: "Yes. We had a Jeremih concert last year on Cardinal Blvd, which was also for Homecoming. It’s perfect because it’s right on campus and has a block-party vibe so it really creates an inviting, community feel. It will have the same set up as last year; West Cardinal Blvd will be closed and the stage will be set up at an angle, facing campus, right in front of Jimmy John’s."

LC: Why did you chose to book local bands as the openers? And why did you chose Twin Limb and Glittertitz?

Olsen: "Louisville has an amazing music culture and we really wanted to tap into that as we have in the past. Student Activities Board strives to create community within our campus and introducing students to the awesome talent we have in this city is one of the ways we can do that. Twin Limb just performed at Waterfront Wednesday and they’re also touring with Houndmouth, which is awesome. Hopefully this show will keep their momentum going and at the same time introduce students to some great local music they may not have heard before. Glittertitz was chosen because they have awesome energy and they will get students hyped for the show."

Matt & Kim will perform at the University of Louisville on Friday, October 16 with Twin Limb and Glittertitz. The concert is free and open to the public with music starting at 8 p.m. The UofL Student Activities Board and Production Simple present this event.
