New Albany was packed with events this weekend! I went to as many as I could, taking photographs in the process. Pictured above is a view of Celts on the River. It was hot. Really hot. But worth the trip.
Walking through the booth area was delightful and informative. The folks at the Scottish Heritage tent looked up my family plaid pattern, I learned about the Midtown Renaissance S. Ellen Jones Neighborhood Stabilization Program. My daughter got a temporary tattoo, we looked at some knotwork jewelry designs, and learned about Irish dancing.
The music was fantastic. Pictured above is either Liam's Fancy or Cloigheann. I'm not sure which, but if any readers do, let me know and I'll update with the proper credit.
As much as Saturday was a celebration of all things Celtic, Friday was a celebration of all things art. Here's a photo from the opening for the "Fire, Color, and Light" exhibit at the Gallery on Pearl, as seen though a beautiful mixed media piece by Joel O'Dorisio. Like all receptions I've been to at the White House, the event was quite enjoyable.
Thorpe Woodworks was also hosting a reception. In this photo you can see their newest piece, made for this Thursday's Exclusively New Albany event. The table is made with innovative techniques that allow the artist to bend the wood without the use of steam. Also, in the spirit of supporting other local businesses, they were serving wine from River City Winery.
Finally, this is my favorite work of art I saw on the art walk, in Glass by the Block, and all the exhibits combined. It was made by C. Matthew Szösz
, and is currently on display in his exhibit, Phase Change, at the Carnegie Center. Unfortunately, I spent too much time chatting with other art enthusiasts at the reception, and ran out of time before I could talk to the artist and ask him if this particular piece was meant to look like a warthog, or if it was just me.
